Naphtha Thrower

Naphtha raining from the walls turns the engines at the gate to ash.

Copper pots, thin wicks and a black, oily liquid. Naphtha throwers keep the fire ready on the ramparts; when they see a ram at the gate or a trebuchet being raised, they hurl their pots of naphtha down.

The flame burns hide roofs, timber beams and the besieger's courage all at once. At the foot of a wall where a naphtha thrower waits, no engine lives long.
