Shieldbearer

A shield wall opens to neither horse nor foot.

A shield as tall as he is, heavy as stone. Shieldbearers stand at the very front of the line, lock their shields together and become a wall. No horse can topple them, no sword can pass between them.

The shieldbearer does not march; he stands. And where he stands is a threshold the enemy cannot cross.
