Once the spears are leveled, no mounted army gets through.

A long spear, a sturdy shield and trust in the comrade beside you. Spearmen line up shoulder to shoulder, lower their spear points and wait. Cavalry charging at them meets a wall like a forest of thorns.

The spearman stands at the holding's gate and does not move. His strength is not in the attack but in never taking a step back.
