Swordsman

Swordsmen carry the weight of a raid and fight foot soldiers hand to hand better than anyone.

Mail, a short sword and a buckler. Swordsmen split the line, fight hand to hand, push the enemy's foot back step by step. They carry the heavy burden of the raid.

Swordsmen are the backbone of a raiding army. The cavalry shows on the horizon first, but it is they who come through the gate and take the holding.
