Chronicle and titles

The chronicle keeps the story of every Age in Otenos: on the last day the rankings freeze, each commander's Age is written into it as a page, titles find their owners and the season table is updated. This chapter covers the close of the Age, the chronicle, titles, seasons and what comes with you from one Age to the next.

When the Age closes

  • At the final moment every score is settled and the rankings freeze.
  • A chronicle page is written for every player under the same rules.
  • Titles are awarded and the Age is given an epithet.
  • Everyone is told their rank: by report, phone notification and email.
  • The closing screen shows your chronicle card and the worlds waiting for new holdings.

Chronicle

Your chronicle holds one page for every Age you play, and it's public on your profile. A page shows:

  • your rank, out of how many players, and your total score,
  • your house, your alliance and whether you led it,
  • whether you were a founder or which day you joined,
  • the deeds you placed and your number of holdings,
  • the altars you held, the raids you drove off and the ones you suffered, the loot you took and the loot taken from you,
  • your losses and the levels you broke or had broken,
  • your titles, the three rivals you clashed with most and your three closest allies,
  • and the standout lines of your Age: the title you won, the category most of your score came from, taking your buildings to the top level, or your heaviest loss.

No chronicle is written for an Age still in progress; your profile shows only the world's name and your current rank.

Titles

Some titles go to just one person per world per Age:

TitleAwarded to
SovereignFirst place in the rankings
Master of the AuctionThe player who wins the most Rare deeds
BulwarkThe player who drives off the most raids
Keeper of the AltarsThe player who defends their altars the most
RaiderThe player who plunders the most resources

For these titles you have to come first in the measure; on a tie, the player ranked higher takes it.

Titles awarded by rank (excluding first place; only the best one applies):

TitleAwarded to
On the podiumSecond and third place
Top tenThe top ten players (in a world of at least ten)
Top ten percentThe top ten percent of the world

Season titles are awarded when the season closes: Sovereign of the Season for first place, Season Podium for second and third.

You can show one of your titles next to your name. Titles aren't sold; they're earned.

The Age's epithet

At the close, every Age gets an epithet based on what stood out about it most: an Age full of war becomes The Bloody Age, a peaceful one The Quiet Age; one lived in the shadow of raids The Age of Plunder, one with calm borders The Age of Calm Borders; an Age of fierce bidding The Age of Cutthroat Bidding, a quiet one at the auction The Age of the Silent Auction; an Age when caravans roamed The Age of Merchants, one when the gates stayed shut The Age of Closed Gates. The epithet appears in the chronicle next to the world's name.

Season

  • Seasons follow the time of year: Winter, Spring, Summer, Autumn. An Age counts toward the season in which it ends.
  • From every Age you earn Age points according to your rank; in a full world first place earns the most, and in smaller worlds the points are scaled.
  • Your season score is the total of your best 3 Ages in a season.
  • The season table is public and shows the top fifty; your own season rank appears on your profile.

Profile

Your profile comes with you from Age to Age: your chronicle pages, your titles, your season rank and the title you've chosen to show. You can share your profile with a link, and when you do, it appears with its own card.

Rivals and acquaintances

The commanders you clashed with most during an Age are written into your chronicle as rivals or allies. When one of them joins a new world, you're notified: a chance to settle an old score or pick up an old friendship.

Withdrawing from the Age

A commander whose last holding falls during the Reign phase withdraws from the Age:

  • The altars they held are left empty, they leave their alliance and their marches on the road vanish.
  • They keep their own rank in the rankings; their story goes into the chronicle as written up to that day.
  • Their account, titles and chronicle stay as they are.
  • If they like, they can make a fresh start and join another open world; they can't return to the same world during that Age.

The world's archive

The details of a closed world are kept for the length of one more Age, then archived. The chronicle, titles, profile and rankings are permanent.
