Score and rankings

In Otenos, the rankings decide who takes the throne: on the last day of the Age, the commander at the top of the rankings becomes the Sovereign. The rankings follow total score, and your score builds up from everything you do during the Age: the holdings you found, the army you keep standing, the battles you win, the altars you hold and the deeds you place.

Rankings

  • Everyone's total score and rank in the world is public.
  • When scores are tied, the player with the lower number ranks ahead.
  • At the final moment of the Age the rankings freeze and are written into the chronicle (Chronicle and titles).

Where your score comes from

CategoryWhat it counts
EconomyThe resources you spend on your standard buildings. Destroyed levels are taken off your score.
ArmyThe value of the army you keep standing, averaged over the last few days. Troops on the march, in reinforcements and at altars count too. Governors, scouts and settlers don't.
DefenseEnemies you cut down while defending your holding, raids you drive off and your altar defenses. A raid you drive off after getting the warning and preparing counts for more.
OffenseEnemies you cut down in the raids you win, and the daring of marching on a contested holding.
AltarsThe hours you hold altars during a rite, and your rite victories.
AuctionThe Rare and Common deeds you place in your holding. An unplaced deed doesn't count.
PlunderThe loot you take in raids.

Economy is the largest part of most commanders' score; the army is the part most easily lost in war. The breakdown by category isn't shown during the Age; when the Age closes, your chronicle says which category most of your score came from.

Charter

Your Charter is your record for the Age: your total score, where you rank and out of how many, and what you've done during the Age. The resources you've plundered, the rites you've won, the altars you've defended, your raid record, the attacks you've led and the top-level titles you've earned all add up here.

Morale and rankings

When a player with a higher score than yours attacks you, their army's morale drops (Morale). Those at the top of the rankings can't attack their smaller neighbors at full strength.

At the end of the Age

  • First place earns the Sovereign title; second and third take the podium, and the top ten and the top ten percent earn titles of their own (Titles).
  • Every player earns Age points according to their rank; Age points go into the season rankings (Season).
  • A player who withdrew from the Age early still appears in the rankings at their own rank.
